Celtic told to make an ‘unusual’ transfer signing as he would be a huge success at the club

The Lawrence Shankland to Celtic talk just isn’t shifting this week as journalist and pundit, Mark Guidi, says that he believes the Scotland hero would be a huge success at the club.

Shankland hit the headlines again with his equalising goal from the bench to save Scotland from defeat in Georgia as Steve Clarke‘s men left the country with a creditable 2-2 draw.

And Guidi reckons that Shankland must be on Celtic’s radar as he proves that he can score goals at every level now.

Giudi said [The Go Radio Football Show], “He’d have to be on the radar. I’d be very surprised if he’s not on the radar because I don’t expect Celtic to be in Europe after Christmas.

“So what would you be looking at him for? You’re looking to do the domestic double. Can Lawrence Shankland make a contribution in a Celtic team domestically? 100%.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. But it’s unusual, if you look at Celtic’s model, it’s unusual for them to go for players under their nose.

“I think maybe the last one was David Turnbull. Before that, Greg Taylor. Some brilliant players, some great young players in the Scottish game but the moment they seem to be ignored.

“But maybe Lawrence Shankland will emerge as one.”

Guidi seems determined to see Shankland in a Celtic jersey as this is now the third time he has mentioned the Hearts captain in the same breath as the Hoops.

But it’s not only Guidi who believes that the 28-year-old can do a job for Brendan Rodgers. Former Celtic hero, Peter Grant, has also tipped Shankland to be good enough to pull on the green and white hoops.

With the January window only five weeks away, we are sure to find out if Rodgers does indeed have Shankland on his radar and if he is willing to break from Celtic’s transfer model and sign a player who is now well into his football career.
