Mark Guidi says he’s been told by people at Celtic that £3m summer signing is not good enough

With Celtic looking to offload players in the January window, a sharp focus will be on who Brendan Rodgers moves on in the coming months.

TBR Celtic have recently put forward five names that we believe might have had their day at the club but it seems like on summer arrival is already battling for his Celtic future.

Mark Guidi has admitted he’s been told by Celtic that £3m summer signing, Gustaf Lagerbielke, is not doing enough to prove he is worthy of a first-team place at the club.

Guidi said [The Go Radio Football Show], “I think they really need to trim the fat in January. Far too many players just sitting there doing nothing.

“I think you can look at guys like Bernabei, Kobayashi, perhaps Mikey Johnson when he’s out of contract this summer maybe he would go.

James McCarthy has not featured at all this season and I think if Stephen Welsh comes back and Nawrocki comes back, I think that Lagerbielke, from what I’m told from inside, is not hitting the standards required.

“So he’s got a bit of work to do to go and turn that around and to show that he is worthy of being in the Celtic first-team squad.”

Are Gustaf Lagerbielke’s days at Celtic numbered?

To draw a line under the Swedish international’s Celtic career right now would be very premature. Yes, he has had a difficult start to his life at Parkhead but, let’s be honest, it wasn’t the easiest of bedding in periods for him.

With a backline decimated by injury, Lagerbielke was thrown into a Glasgow Derby and the Champions League without a solid partner to help guide him through the games.

And in truth, apart from a mistake at Rangers and Feyenoord (where he was really unlucky to see red) the stats show that he played well in parts for Celtic.

Lagerbielke was recently honoured in Sweden where, last week, he won the Allsvenkan’s Defender of the Year for his performances for Elfsborg. So it is clear that he is a very good player.

Whatever it is that Lagerbielke needs to do to turn around his situation at Celtic he had better do it quick because it looks like he could be one that is on his way if things don’t start picking up for him

In other news, Media can’t believe 24-year-old is barely playing for Celtic after his brilliant display yesterday
