Report: 21 year-old Rangers man ‘seriously’ considering second loan spell

Rangers player Glenn Middleton has admitted that he is open to the idea of returning to St Johnstone next season.

Speaking to Saints TV via The National, the 21-year-old attacker revealed that he would be open to the idea of returning to St Johnstone next season if the opportunity was presented to him, with Middleton currently enjoying a successful loan spell with the Scottish Premier League side after joining the club in the January transfer window.

Middleton has made eight appearances in all competitions for Callum Davidson’s side and has found the back of the next already, scoring the winning goal against Ross County in the final regular league game of the SPL season, and the Northampton-born attacker has already kept the door open for a return to St Johnstone next season.

The youngster said: “I can’t look too far ahead. For me just now, it’s about trying to play in every game for St Johnstone and making a positive impact. I am under contract at Rangers and that means they are in control of the situation moving forward.

“I’ve no idea what the summer holds for me in terms of going into next season. But if there is an opportunity to come back to Saints then I’d seriously look at it because I have really enjoyed my time here.

TBR View: Second loan move will be perfect for Middleton’s development

With no first-team minutes for Rangers this season, and Steven Gerrard likely to build on his title-winning team in the summer, a second loan move would be the ideal next step in Middleton’s footballing development.

At 21, the Scotland youth international is at a stage in his career where he needs to be playing regular football in a top division and, while most of his appearances for St Johnstone this season have come from the bench, his comments clearly indicate that he is happy enough with the club to spend a second year there.
