Report: Scottish Premiership side eye Celtic player

The Sun have claimed that Scottish Premiership side St. Johnstone are interested in signing Celtic youngster Wallace Duffy this summer, with his contract set to expire at the end of the month.

The 20-year-old right-back has enormous competition ahead of him at Parkhead, with Celtic likely to want to sign a right-back this summer. Mikael Lustig has reportedly been offered a new deal.

Cristian Gamboa has left, while Jeremy Toljan has returned to Borussia Dortmund. But Anthony Ralston also remains above Duffy, while James Forrest and Nir Bitton have played on the right side of defence.

Duffy was one of six players set to be released by Celtic, along with Regan Hendry, PJ Crossan, Ross McLaughlin, Lewis Bell and Reece Willison. But Duffy could remain in the top flight, as competition for Richard Foster.

Duffy is yet to make his senior appearance in professional football, failing to play for Celtic or go out on loan.

TBR’s view

It is a move that benefits all parties. Celtic were set to release Duffy anyway, but whether he makes a move to St. Johnstone or not is hardly going to bother the Scottish champions.

For Duffy, the youngster has a big chance to break into a top-flight side and prove Celtic wrong. For St. Johnstone, they are getting a player with huge potential after years of training with one of the country’s best academies – if not the best.
