Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has come under fire for his comments after the win over St Johnstone.

A late Alfredo Morelos goal – his second of the game – earned Rangers a 2-1 win at St Johnstone.

But speaking to BT Sport via The Scottish Sun, Gerrard insisted: “We shouldn’t have to work that hard to win at places like this.”

Gerrard apologised in this morning’s press conference, as reported by The Scottish Sun, when he said: “Some of my quotes were misunderstood or taken the wrong way, so I apologise for that.”

Rangers have been handed a major boost ahead of next Saturday’s Old Firm clash.

Tom Rogic – one of Celtic’s best players – is unavailable after Australia manager Graham Arnold insisted he joined up with the national squad, The Scottish Sun reports.

The 26-year-old will fly out after the Boxing Day clash with Aberdeen to join the Socceroos for their Asia Cup campaign.

Rogic plays as a number 10 and his absence will be a boost for Rangers, who are just behind Celtic in the title race.

Turkish giants Fenerbahce want to sign James Tavernier from Rangers, according to Fotospor.

The 27-year-old is captain at Rangers and regularly plays at right-back.

Many Gers fans feel his attacking work is impressive but he can be caught off defensively.

Fenerbahce want to offer the former Newcastle United man the chance to test himself in Turkey.
