Manchester United are now pushing to sign ‘very intelligent’ player who Bruno Fernandes really likes

Manchester United are reportedly pushing to sign Benfica midfielder Joao Neves ahead of next summer’s transfer window.

The 19-year-old wonderkid has been one of the breakout players of the season, with transfer interest now starting to mount for Neves heading into 2024.

Arsenal are already reportedly scouting the teenage midfielder with United, naturally, in the conversation as well, with Bruno Fernandes already a really big fan of Neves.

Lauded by former coach Luis Castro as a ‘very intelliegent’ player, Neves is a prospect that looks destined for greatness, and United are now making moves to sign the youngster.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg has now reported that the Manchester giants are pushing to sign Neves, who could become United’s marquee signing of the summer transfer window next year.

Indeed, the Red Devils could do with a new superstar midfielder, and with Neves having as a good a season as he is for Benfica, the youngster could be ideal for United in 2024.

With a release clause worth well over £100m, signing Neves will be a huge financial undertaking for United, who in the past have overspent greatly on players who haven’t quite made the grade.

Whilst Neves is only 19-years-old and is looking phenomenal this season for Benfica, there’s still a risk that United could be paying too much for someone who might not make it that far at the club.

Indeed, whilst United’s last midfield import from Portugal was a bonafide success, Neves’ age and midfield role makes the youngster a risky bet going into 2024.

And with Kobbie Mainoo now breaking into United’s starting XI, the odds of Erik Ten Hag even needing Neves could be quite low come the end of the season.
