‘Talks are underway’… £70m player is being offered new contract after links with Tottenham

Lautaro Martinez will soon reportedly be handed a new contract at Inter Milan amid rumours that Tottenham are interested in the striker.

The Argentine international has been linked with a move away from the San Siro for some time, with reports indicating that Martinez is a target for Tottenham as an eventual replacement for Harry Kane.

However, according to Inter’s CEO Beppe Marotta via Fabrizio Romano, talks are now underway for Martinez to sign a new contract with the Serie A giants.

With a valuation of £70m, Martinez was always going to be an expensive signing for Tottenham if a bid was ever to be made for the Inter captain.

And this latest update now suggests that a deal for the striker is all-but dead, with Inter making moves behind the scenes to tie Martinez down to a new contract.

“We are in talks with Lautaro and his agent to get new deal sorted, we’re very calm. I believe that there will be no issues in the negotiations as Lautaro wants to continue here, talks are underway.”

Named Inter’s captain this summer and in constant talks with the club over a new contract, the odds of Martinez ever leaving the Nerazzurri always felt small heading into January.

And with the nail finally in the coffin for Tottenham, the north London side can finally move onto more realistic targets in the transfer window.

Indeed, it’s pretty clear that Spurs need an attacker with Heung-min Son currently doing all the heavy lifting as Richarlison continues to falter with Tottenham.

And with Martinez now off the table, attentions can shift to realistic targets who actually fit the budget Tottenham can afford in the January transfer window.
