‘Will be disappointed’…BBC pundit says 26-year-old Arsenal star will be annoyed after moment of ‘brilliance’

Steve Sidwell has suggested that Gabriel Jesus will be disappointed after Arsenal won at Brentford on Saturday after a moment of brilliance presented the chance to the Brazilian.

Sidwell was speaking on BBC Radio Five Live after the Gunners had a goal ruled out just before half-time with Leandro Trossard deemed to be offside before finding the back of the net.

Gabriel Jesus must have thought that he would have his first assist of the season in the Premier League. Bukayo Saka’s cross handed the striker a golden chance to head home the opening goal of the game.

However, Jesus put his header straight at Mark Flekken. Flekken perhaps did not expect to be given a chance to make a save as he parried the ball into the path of Leandro Trossard. Thankfully for the Brentford goalkeeper, VAR deemed Trossard to be in front of Jesus when he headed the ball.

Steve Sidwell thought Gabriel Jesus should have done better with the chance. But he did praise the 26-year-old for the run, as well as the cross from Saka.

“It was a bit of brilliance and the timing of the run. Jesus will be disappointed he didn’t score the first one but again it shows the purpose from Arsenal,” he told BBC Radio Five Live.

Plenty to ponder as January window looms

The form of Gabriel Jesus is proving to be a potential problem for Mikel Arteta. Of course, Jesus has been sidelined with injury for some of the campaign. So he is probably not fully fit just yet.

However, he has only scored one goal in the Premier League. And that will be a worry when Manchester City have Erling Haaland proving to be so ruthless again this season.

Jesus is an amazing player. And his game is about so much more than the goals he scores.

But it is still the case that Arsenal lack a world-class goalscorer with the January transfer window just around the corner.
