Manchester United begin signing mission to land ‘ideal’ £26m centre-back

Manchester United have reportedly got the ball rolling in pursuit of Genoa and Romania defender Radu Dragusin.

According to Romanian outlet Prosport, the Red Devils have ‘launched the Dragusin operation’ ahead of the January transfer window.

Man United manager Erik ten Hag apparently sees the 21-year-old as the ‘ideal’ centre-back to bolster the Red Devils’ defensive ranks.

The Old Trafford outfit is reportedly looking to bring in several new signings in the January transfer window.

According to The Guardian, the centre of defence is an area that Man United want to strengthen.

Raphael Varane has struggled with injuries and has fallen out of favour in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Dragusin is apparently sought after by many of Europe’s top clubs after coming to the fore at Genoa.

As well as Man United, Prosport names the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona and AC Milan as suitors.

Can Manchester United land the ‘Romanian Van Dijk’?

Dragusin is a talented young player who has been doing well for Genoa in Serie A. He has a high ceiling, and seems both available and decently-priced.

Goal.com named Dragusin in their 2021 NxGn list, at number 45. The same outlet – in another article – also deemed him the ‘Romanian Van Dijk’.

The £26million-rated talent is strong in the air, comfortable with the ball at his feet, and possesses strong energy levels.

Better still for the likes of Man United, Dragusin’s mother previously told Romanian outlet AS that her son’s “childhood dream” is to play in the Premier League.

He seems like a good shout for the Red Devils to bolster their defensive ranks in the January transfer window, one in which it can be a bit difficult to bring in elite players.
