BBC pundit tears into 27-year-old Manchester United player after display vs Galatasaray

Stephen Warnock did not hold back in his criticism of Andre Onana after the Manchester United goalkeeper conceded his second goal against Galatasaray on Wednesday.

Warnock was speaking on BBC Radio Five Live after Hakim Ziyech handed the home side a lifeline after Erik ten Hag’s men had initially gone 3-1 up in the second-half.

Andre Onana definitely had an evening to forget in Turkey. Manchester United appeared to be in a fantastic position to earn a big three points in their push to get out of their Champions League group, taking a 2-0 lead during the first-half.

Andre Onana has a terrible night for Manchester United

Onana did not cover himself in glory for Galatasaray’s first goal from Ziyech. And he made an even bigger error for the home side’s second.

Ziyech’s free-kick was heading right for the centre of the goal. While there was some pace on the ball, many would have been expecting the 27-year-old to gather it fairly comfortably.

However, Onana decided to try and punch the ball. But rather than clear it away, he managed to send the ball underneath him and squirming into the back of the net.

Peter Schmeichel was left in dismay by Onana’s error. And Stephen Warnock clearly could not believe what he was seeing from the summer signing.

“Onana is having a terrible night and a night he’ll be desperate to forget about. He punches it into his own goal. Disastrous,” he told BBC Radio Five Live.

Goalkeeper’s form has really cost Erik ten Hag’s side in Europe

What made the mistake even worse was that Galatasaray did manage to score an equaliser shortly after. And with that, United are facing a huge task trying to get through to the knockout stages with only a game against Bayern Munich to come.

Onana meanwhile, has got a long way to go before he manages to prove his doubters wrong. His display on Wednesday was simply not good enough.

And while he did have some credit in the bank for his most recent form, his performances in Europe this season have seriously cost ten Hag’s men.
