BBC pundit says 23-year-old had his best ever game for Manchester United tonight

Stephen Warnock made quite the claim about the performance of Antony during the first-half as Manchester United took on Galatsaray in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Warnock was speaking on BBC Radio Five Live as he lauded the Brazilian during the early stages of the contest as Erik ten Hag’s side missed out on boosting their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

Antony has certainly not had a positive start to the season. Remarkably, the 23-year-old has not provided a goal or an assist in any competition so far this term.

But he was definitely bright against the Turkish club on Wednesday. He did play an important role in United’s third goal of the evening, finding Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who then crossed the ball for Scott McTominay to slide in and find the back of the net.

It was certainly encouraging. And Warnock suggested early on that he had not seen a better display for Manchester United from the winger.

“This is the best performance I’ve seen from Antony in a Manchester United shirt already,” he told BBC Radio Five Live.

More encouraging signs for Erik ten Hag

Ten Hag appeared to be on the verge of making it two really important wins following the international break.

Many would have expected a fired-up Everton to beat them at Goodison Park at the weekend. And few away games are more daunting than a trip to Galatasaray.

United won the first fixture. And they looked to be well on their way to getting three points from their clash tonight. They led by two goals on two occasions against Gala.

However, mistakes from Andre Onana cost United. And they now facing a huge task trying to get through to the knockout stages with only a fixture against Bayern Munich to come.

Antony meanwhile, still has a lot more to prove. Ultimately, he has been a hugely disappointing signing. 11 goal involvements in 57 games in all competitions is not good enough.

But he is one of the players who can perhaps be content with his performance on what proved to be an agonising night for the Premier League side.
