‘Looked like he had slippers on’… Pundit says £66m Liverpool player looked all over the place today

Liverpool drew with Manchester City 1-1 on Saturday, and while a draw at the Etihad is usually a great result, it has to be said that this wasn’t a vintage performance.

Indeed, the Reds weren’t at their very best in this game, and a number of Liverpool’s star players didn’t show up.

Mohamed Salah wasn’t at his best, Virgil Van Dijk perhaps could’ve done better for the goal, while Alisson Becker put in one of his worst performances in a long time.

Speaking on ESPN, Steve Nicol has been discussing Alisson’s showing here, and he says that the Brazilian looked uncomfortable all game, claiming that he looked as though he was playing with slippers on when the ball was at his feet.

Alisson looked uncomfortable

Nicol gave his verdict on the £66m man.

“Alisson in this game didn’t cover himself in glory. He made one good stop from Haaland just before Liverpool actually scored, but other than that, a player we talk about having such great feet, he looked like he had slippers on with no studs, he looked uncomfortable with the ball at his feet the whole game,’ Nicol said.

Seen this before

Alisson is a player that you can very rarely have a bad word to say about, but we have seen this before from the Brazilian.

The goalkeeper made two big mistakes against City in a 4-1 loss back in 2021 as well as making a mistake against Real Madrid last season in the Champions League, and it does seem as though he can be slightly overawed by these games at times.

Of course, he wasn’t terrible today, he made a few really good saves including one from Phil Foden in the first-half, but, his distribution was off and he was very lucky that Ruben Dias’ goal to make it 2-0 was disallowed.

Alisson won’t look back on this as a vintage performance, that’s for sure.
