‘He may need to leave’… Pundit says 24-year-old Liverpool player needs to get out of Anfield now

Caoimhin Kelleher is one of the best number twos in England, but this role may be unsustainable for a goalkeeper who wants to reach the top level one day.

The Irishman has been brilliant whenever called upon by the Reds, but when you’re that talented, you need to be playing regular football.

Speaking on Virgin Media Sport, Darren Randolph has been discussing Kelleher in regards to the Irish goalkeeping situation, and the pundit has urged the 24-year-old Liverpool ace to leave Anfield sooner rather than later in order to get regular first-team football and forge his own path.

Kelleher needs to leave

Randolph spoke about Kelleher.

“I say it to all young goalkeepers, go and get games, there’s only so long you can stay at a club, you need to get games and gain experience as soon as you can,” Randolph said.

“It’s the same situation for Kelleher as well, would that be your message to him to go and get the number one jersey somewhere?” Randolph was asked.

“I think it’s brilliant for Caoimhin to be at Liverpool and to play in the games he plays in, but I think for his career and his development to set his own path he may need to leave. Realistically he has Alisson in front of him and barring injury, he’s going to be there for a long time,” Randolph said.

For the best

As much as it must be a dream for Liverpool to be at Liverpool and playing in these huge games, it may be for the best for him to leave.

You can’t spend your entire career as a number two, and at the age of 24 now, he’s getting to that point where he has to be seriously contemplating his next step.

Kelleher is certainly good enough to play for another Premier League club, and perhaps he should be looking for a move in January.
