‘From the off’: Alan Shearer slams Liverpool players for their attitude at Nottingham Forest

Alan Shearer has slammed Liverpool for how they played against Nottingham Forest and believes they thought they just needed to turn up.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were out fought and out battled at the City Ground as a goal from Taiwo Awoniyi ensured a huge three points for Steve Cooper’s side. It moved Forest out of the bottom three and gives them a huge platform to build on for the rest of the season.

For Liverpool, though, it was another dose of reality in what has already been a turbulent season. And watching the game for PremierLeague.com, Alan Shearer felt Liverpool got what they deserved.

“It’s difficult to work out Liverpool. Last week they were full of energy against Man City. But Forest had workrate and hunger to get the ball. We thought Liverpool would win but from the off they started like they just needed to turn up. You can’t turn up and expect to win in any game,” Shearer said.

Liverpool now find themselves miles off the pace at the top of the table and if Man City win today, then that gap becomes even bigger.

For Jurgen Klopp, there seems to be a lot of thinking for him to do in regards to just how gets some consistency into his side.

TBR’s View: Liverpool Woeful Overall At Forest

Barring a few set pieces, Liverpool barely created anything of note against the Reds and in the end, it was Forest who probably could and should have scored a second.

Liverpool look nowhere near the team they once were. Klopp has to get something going, albeit injuries are causing him a bit of a problem as well.

Shearer’s point here about simply turning up and expecting to win is well pointed out, and Liverpool have simply got to get going soon.
