‘I did tell you’: Paul Merson boasts to Liverpool fans when it comes to Firmino and Salah

Paul Merson has been gloating in his weekly SportsKeeda column, telling Liverpool fans he was right all along about Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian striker has become a key figure once more this season and despite the big summer signing of Darwin Nunez, Firmino is the main man at the top of the field once again.

In the last two games, Mo Salah has come back to life while Firmino has also played well. And Merson, speaking about this week’s clash with West Ham, believes he always said Salah would come good when Firmino played more.

“I did tell you that Mohamed Salah was going to be a better player with Firmino in the team, didn’t I? How many runs did make from the outside to the inside yesterday? It worked a treat. Look at Virgil van Dijk yesterday – he’s back to being an absolute Rolls Royce. He was up against the best centre-forward in the world yesterday and was outstanding at the highest level,” Merson said for SportsKeeda.

Firmino will likely have an even bigger role to play in the coming weeks after Diogo Jota was stretchered off. The Portuguese forward could even miss the World Cup, such is the extent of his injury.

Jurgen Klopp called Firmino ‘exceptional‘ in the week and he even hinted he might not play v City.

However, that would have been a bad call and we saw yesterday just how good Firmino is. Salah’s impact was there too, and there is little doubt the Brazilian brings the best from his teammates.

Merson, then, is right to have a little gloat here and he is bang on in what he says. Liverpool fans will laugh it off, but Merson is never going to miss the chance to tell everyone he was right.
