Jamie O’Hara wanted £61m star at Tottenham, now Postecoglou can sign him in a swap deal

Tottenham Hotspur have a concrete interest in Barcelona winger Raphinha, a player Jamie O’Hara once said he would love to have at Spurs.

Ange Postecoglou’s side has been ravaged by injuries recently. They are expected to be active in the January transfer window, and Football Transfers claimed this week that Raphinha is a target.

Jamie O’Hara once said he’d love Raphinha at Tottenham

Raphinha was a star when he was in the Premier League at Leeds United.

The Brazilian is a fantastic footballer. He’s quick, an excellent dribbler, can score goals and provide assists. It’s no surprise why Barcelona pushed so hard to sign him last year.

Now, however, the report claims Barca are willing to let Raphinha leave for the right price, and Tottenham apparently have a concrete interest in him.

We don’t know how Spurs fans really feel about this potential move, but we have a feeling Jamie O’Hara would absolutely love him at his club.

The Tottenham-supporting pundit claimed in January last year that he would love it if the Brazilian became a Spurs player.

After Leeds’ win over West Ham, O’Hara said on talkSPORT: “Jack Harrison got the hat-trick, but the star player was Raphinha. He just glides past people, the way he moves. The free-kick he almost scored, just everything about his game.

“I’d love him at Spurs, I’d love him. But I don’t know if he’d ever come and Leeds definitely wouldn’t sell him, but brilliant player.”

Spurs could sign him in a swap deal

It really was a surprise when Football Transfers claimed this week that Tottenham have an interest in Raphinha ahead of the January transfer window.

It has been revealed that Barcelona are willing to let him go if a club meets their asking price of £61 million (€70m), which is a lot. However, the report claims Tottenham could land the Brazilian in a swap deal as Xavi’s side would like to sign Cristian Romero.

Anything is possible in the mad world of transfers, but this is as unlikely as anything can ever be. There’s just no way Spurs would be willing to let Romero go, despite Barcelona’s interest.

If Raphinha does end up at Tottenham, it’ll likely be a straight-cash deal. However, we just can’t see this move happening as Spurs have other priorities, namely central defence.
