Tottenham Hotspur appear to have been dealt a huge blow following their defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend, with journalist Federico Buysan sharing how long Rodrigo Bentancur is expected to be sidelined for.
Buysan took to X to report that the Uruguayan is expected to return no earlier than mid-February after tearing his ankle ligaments.
Rodrigo Bentancur handed Tottenham a massive boost when he recently made his return after several months on the sidelines. Bentancur was a shining light in a miserable season last year. So it was devastating to see him sustain a serious injury.
Tottenham set to be without Rodrigo Bentancur until February
Thankfully, he is not facing quite the same period out this time. But it is still very bad news for Ange Postecoglou after Matty Cash’s challenge on Bentancur at the weekend.
According to Buysan, Bentancur will not play again before the new year. In fact, he is unlikely to be back in the side until February at the earliest…
Yet another setback for Spurs
Bentancur was playing brilliantly against Villa before sustaining the injury. And Tottenham have already got so many players dealing with injuries at the moment.

James Maddison is not expected to return before the turn of the year. And Micky van de Ven is also on the sidelines right now.
The pair have been so influential so far this season. So to lose them in the same game was pretty devastating for Tottenham fans.
Unfortunately, it is seemingly now going to be even longer before Tottenham supporters get to see Bentancur, Maddison and van de Ven all in the same lineup.
Ange Postecoglou must surely be wondering where all of his luck has gone following this latest setback in what has been a pretty torrid month for the Australian.
