‘Matter of time’… It’s looking almost inevitable that Tottenham player is going to leave

Journalist Paul Brown is now convinced that it’s only a matter of time before Eric Dier leaves Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur side.

Brown was speaking after Postecoglou’s surprise snub of Dier against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Despite Spurs being without a host of defensive options, Postecoglou preferred to play with four full-backs across his back line, leaving Dier watching on.

And Brown thought Dier was far too ambitious to settle for this situation.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Brown said: “I’m pretty sure Eric Dier will have been baffled by that decision and not terribly happy.

“It’s looking difficult for him to earn the trust of the manager in that position.

“It might be that Postecoglou wants to rotate there without his top two depending on who the opposition are but I don’t think it’s a good look for Dier not to be getting in for a game like that.

“I know for a fact he’s still an ambitious player he still has a lot of drive and he knows he can do a job in the Premier League, so I think if he continues to be on the fringes when Spurs don’t have their two first choice centre backs available, it’s only a matter of time before he leaves.”

Journalist convinced Eric Dier will leave Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham project

Whilst it has seemed something of a foregone conclusion that Dier would leave Spurs in the near future, the extent of his snub is still a shock.

With so many missing Dier looked nailed on to start, a player who was crucial for Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte at times.

However, Postecoglou is so adamant that he won’t change his philosophy, and the performance at Wolverhampton Wanderers seemed to be a turning point.

The manager was said to be fuming at the performance in hindsight, and then dropped Eric Dier alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in response.

Postecoglou is not willing to divert from his style, and those he considers not capable of fulfilling that will have to leave.

Paul Ince is convinced that Spurs need to change their tune for a trip to the Etihad, something that does seem very unlikely.

Postecoglou has his strong convictions, and Dier simply doesn’t match them, a player who looks destined to depart Tottenham.
