‘He was the best’… £37m Liverpool player was his country’s hero last night

Liverpool winger Luis Diaz was the star of the show as Colombia beat Brazil in the World Cup qualifiers last night.

The 26-year-old has had a very difficult few weeks, but last night’s game was a joyous occasion, with his father supporting him from the stands. Diaz did not disappoint.

Liverpool star Luis Diaz was the best player on the pitch in Colombia vs Brazil

Colombia went into the game against Brazil last night as the underdogs, but they were really good.

Nestor Lorenzo’s men went a goal down early in the game after Gabriel Martinelli, who started the game as a striker, opened the scoring after just four minutes.

Colombia looked threatening, but Brazil and Alisson held on to their lead until the 75th minute. Then, Luis Diaz stepped up.

The Liverpool winger levelled the game with a brilliant header past Alisson. He then did the same just four minutes later to win the game for Colombia.

Reviewing his performance after the victory, ESPN Colombia wrote about Diaz: “He was the best, the figure of Colombia and the party in the Metropolitan.

“He was seen with another speed in the Tricolor, he was sharp on the left, finishing off and demanding the goalkeeper a couple of times, he lost a clearing in the area and then had the opportunity for a tremendous goal in which he ran from field to field. However, at the time of definition, it failed.

“In the second half, he had a clear chance but then came a masterful Alisson cover. However, in the next action with a header, he scored. But, as if it were not enough again, he sent the ball against the net again after a James (Rodriguez) master cross.”

Nobody deserves it more than Luis Diaz

Liverpool star Luis Diaz has had to go through hell over the last few weeks after what happened with his parents back home in Colombia.

Thankfully, they returned safely, and Diaz’s dad was in attendance at the game yesterday. He would’ve been proud of his son’s fantastic performance against Brazil.

The £37 million (BBC) Liverpool man’s mind will be at peace now. Everyone he loves is safe now and he can go back to concentrating on football for club and country. His performance last night showed he can be nearly unstoppable when he’s in the right frame of mind.

Nobody deserves it more than Diaz, and even Alisson, who ended up on the losing side yesterday, was delighted for his Liverpool teammate. The two shared a beautiful moment at the end of the game.
