Arsenal really want £30m man to stay but Edu will sell him if he asks to leave

Everyone at Arsenal including Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar wants Aaron Ramsdale to stay at the club in January, but the Englishman will get his wish if he asks to leave.

At the start of this season, if someone told you that Ramsdale’s future at Arsenal would be in doubt just a few months into the campaign, you would’ve called them crazy. However, that’s exactly how things have turned out.

Everyone at Arsenal wants Aaron Ramsdale to stay

Arsenal have two world-class goalkeepers at their club now – Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya.

The England international started the season as the club’s number one. He didn’t do much wrong, but Mikel Arteta decided he wanted a change in goal.

Raya came into the side and has been the main man since. Even though he has made quite a few mistakes, Arteta has stuck by him, and that doesn’t look like it will change anytime soon.

With the Euros coming up in the summer, Ramsdale may have to consider his future at Arsenal, but Paul Brown has claimed on GiveMeSport that everyone at the club wants the Englishman to stay.

However, if Ramsdale decides he wants to leave, Edu and Arteta will not stand in his way.

Brown said: “Nobody at Arsenal is trying to sell Aaron Ramsdale. Nobody wants him to leave and Arteta wants him in the squad. He has got every chance of winning back that No.1 shirt at some point.

“However, he does want to try and get in the England team and oust Jordan Pickford as England’s No.1. He can’t do that while he is on the bench, so I do think that if he isn’t playing much by January, things might come to a head and he’ll have a decision to make.

“If Aaron Ramsdale was to go to Mikel Arteta and say, ‘I’m not playing enough. It’s costing me the chance to put pressure on the England No.1 and I need to move’, I suspect Arsenal probably wouldn’t stand in his way.

“We’re not at that stage yet, and I don’t think that he is anywhere near making that kind of decision. I think he believes he can still get into this team, and there’s every reason to think that he can because David Raya has made some mistakes recently.

“He’s probably rubbing his hands thinking he is going to get a chance at some point, so we’ll just have to see. But if Ramsdale was to ask to leave Arsenal, I think they probably would decide to sell. It will be up to him.”

Mikel Arteta needs to change his stance on Ramsdale

Mikel Arteta is not wrong to give David Raya an opportunity after bringing him to Arsenal in the summer.

The Spanish goalkeeper is fantastic in his own right, but based on what we’ve seen of him in an Arsenal shirt so far, he hasn’t really been an upgrade on Ramsdale, has he?

The £30 million (Sky Sports) Englishman is expected to start against West Ham United in the Carabao Cup tonight, and he will have a chance to show everyone what he’s all about.

If Ramsdale has a good game, we really think Arteta should change his stance and bring his number one back into the Premier League and Champions League sides.
