‘I am really happy’… Mikel Arteta suggests £12m Arsenal player may not leave after all

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has given his verdict on Jorginho.

Arteta has suggested that the former Chelsea midfielder could get a new contract with Arsenal.

So, what has Mikel Arteta said about Arsenal midfielder Jorginho? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been raving about Jorginho.

Arteta has said that he is very happy with Jorginho, who joined Arsenal from London and Premier League rivals Chelsea in January 2023 for £12 million (The Guardian).

The Italy international has made four starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal this season. The 31-year-old has made two starts and one substitute appearance in the UEFA Champions League for the North London club this campaign.

Jorginho is out of contract at Arsenal in the summer of 2024, although the North London club do have the option to extend it by a further year.

Football.London has quoted Arteta as saying about Jorginho: “I am really happy with Jorgi. We all are. He contributes to make the team better. Let’s see.”

Jorginho could be useful for Arsenal this season

In my opinion, it would not be a bad idea for Arsenal to trigger the option to extend Jorginho’s contract by a further year.

As things stand, Jorginho will become a free agent at the end of the season. Even if the Italian wanted to leave in the summer of 2024, Arsenal could still get some transfer fee for him.

Jorginho is not a regular in the Arsenal starting lineup, but he is a very useful player to have, especially in European matches and in big games.

Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League this season, and I think that Jorginho would be handy in certain matches.
