Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is yet to sign a new contract with Arsenal, and his agent has now been sharing details on proceedings.
Joao Santos, Jorginho’s agent, was speaking via Tutto Mercato and described the ‘standstill’ between both parties.
Jorginho’s contract with Arsenal is set to expire at the end of this season, although the club do have an option of a further year.
The situation must be a priority for Arsenal to sort, however, Jorginho’s agent has now claimed that talks simply aren’t progressing for now.
Santos said: “Everything is at a standstill. We’ll think about it after February. However, the priority remains Arsenal.”
A few months ago, some Arsenal fans may have considered that Jorginho might not have been needed beyond his current contract.
Declan Rice had recently arrived at the club, Thomas Partey was already performing well in midfield, and the Italian looked like distant back up.

However, following an inevitable Partey injury, and a surprising move forward for Rice, Jorginho has proved vital.
The midfielder has provided consistency and leadership in what could have been a difficult period for Arsenal.
Jorginho’s agent claims contract talks have stalled with Arsenal
It was recently reported that Arsenal would have been willing to accept an offer for Thomas Partey last summer, a stance likely repeated in the coming windows.
And given Mohamed Elneny may also exit the club after this season, it would seem unlikely that Mikel Arteta would sanction the departure of three midfielders in one window.
Therefore, all indicators do point towards Jorginho staying at the club beyond his current deal.
And although his agent describes a standstill right now, there must be confidence that Jorginho will remain with Arsenal.
Arsenal are now being linked with Ruben Neves as well as Douglas Luiz in the future.
And although the arrival of either would surely be very welcome by Arsenal fans, it wouldn’t leave Jorginho as surplus.
The 31-year-old is an important presence both on and off the pitch for Arsenal, and a stay beyond 2023 now looks best for all parties.
