Brazil manager comments on Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli’s missed chance in Argentina defeat

Brazil manager Fernando Diniz has now shared his thoughts on Arsenal duo Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli against Argentina last night.

Diniz was speaking to Globo in Brazil and was summarising the performance as a whole.

Arsenal fans may have not been too delighted to see Jesus start the game for Brazil alongside Martinelli given his recent injury issue.

However, the striker did play 90 minutes, but ultimately failed to get on the scoresheet once again for his country.

And when mentioning some missed chances, the manager recalled an opportunity when Jesus and Martinelli failed to make the most of a key moment for Brazil.

Diniz was positive about the performance overall, but couldn’t help but mention the chance.

He said: “We had chances, the ball hit the post, dangerous corners, we were in danger today from set pieces; he had the decisive ball in the second half, because there was Gabriel Jesus’ play with Martinelli, but unfortunately the ball didn’t go in.

“I want to highlight the commitment of the players, the construction of the team, today was a game in which you saw a lot of collective construction.

“It’s difficult to take on a team, even more so by changing the team a lot, and being able to have the cohesion that the team showed today.”

Arsenal duo Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus didn’t have their best night for Brazil

It’s been a difficult period as a whole for Brazil, a side who have now lost their last three games.

Moreover, since the World Cup in 2022, the country have won just three of their last nine – not the form you associate with the side.

Brazil are going through something of a transitional period, and Arsenal’s Jesus and Martinelli will be key to turning things around.

Martinelli in particular will still reflect on a very productive time away with his country – two starts and his first goal.

And although Jesus failed to have any success himself, he will be happy to be back fit and playing.

Both of the duo will now be crucial for Mikel Arteta over the festive period – players Arsenal need to keep fit.

And whilst it may not mean too much, William Saliba also had his own difficulties whilst away with France.
