Gabriel Martinelli claims 26-year-old Arsenal teammate is one of the best players in the world

Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli has now been hailing the ability of his Brazil teammate Gabriel Jesus whilst away with his country.

Martinelli was speaking to Globo and said that Jesus was one of the best strikers in world football.

He said that Jesus was like a brother to him at Arsenal, and thought the striker was key for both club and country.

Martinelli said: “He is a guy that I consider highly, he is a brother to me, we created a great friendship.

“He is one of the best centre forwards in the world.

“I hope he also works very well here in the Seleção, as he is doing at Arsenal, so that we can bring joy to the Brazilian fans.”

Martinelli did of course score his first goal for Brazil in their recent tie against Colombia.

The Arsenal winger said it was a ‘dream come true’ and was very relieved to break his duck.

Of course, Brazil do still have another tie in this international break against Argentina on Wednesday.

And whilst Arsenal fans will be delighted to see Martinelli start for Brazil once again, they may be more hesitant to watch Jesus play.

It is now being reported that Jesus could even be in contention to start against Argentina despite his recent issue.

Mikel Arteta would surely be furious to see Jesus start the tie given how carefully Arsenal have been planning his return.

Jesus has been missing through injury far too often in North London of late, a player whose ability is now being understated.

When fit, Jesus is among the league’s best.

However, because of his recent absences many now seem convinced that Arsenal have to buy a new striker.

Ivan Toney is linked with the club all the time, something that is bound to continue into January.

But Martinelli may even be one to protest that Arsenal already have all they need with Jesus at the club.

Either way, it’s clear that a lot of Arsenal eyes will be glued to Brazil’s meeting with Argentina on Wednesday.

And with Jesus now so close to a return, it would be a bitter blow if he took a knock when returning too early.
