Aston Villa

Gabby Agbonlahor noticed Unai Emery going absolutely crazy at £15m Villa man yesterday

Gabby Agbonlahor has now discussed something he saw Unai Emery doing during Aston Villa’s win over Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

The pundit was speaking on talkSPORT this morning and recalled an incident during the first half of the game.

Agbonlahor noticed that Unai Emery was screaming at Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz to deliver a late free-kick into the box – something he did in some style.

Although, the pundit still didn’t think the manager looked too happy even after it led to a goal.

Agbonlahor said: “He was screaming at him, put the ball in the box, it’s the last kick of the first half and he did it.

“And Unai Emery’s celebration was one of relief wasn’t it because to be honest I was watching the game and I was thinking I can’t even watch this, as we are getting absolutely battered by Spurs.”

Of course, Aston Villa did find a way to win in the end, having survived an onslaught of attacks from Tottenham.

And Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou was incredibly impressed with one Villa player – someone linked with a move to the club in the past.

After the game, Emery was actually questioned on the future of his star midfielder £15m Douglas Luiz.

The Spaniard was quick to point out just how happy Luiz was at Villa amid long-term interest from Arsenal.

And given how well Villa are going, they surely wouldn’t sell the Brazilian for any price in January.

Whether Villa believe they can sustain a push for the top four or not, they simply can’t afford to lose any of their key players.

The side are still competing across multiple competitions and do have a realistic chance of a trophy this season.

As well as their chances domestically, Villa must be considered favourites for the Europa Conference League.

And as Agbonlahor would surely point out as well, so much credit needs to be given to Unai Emery for Villa’s lofty progress.

As far as they’ve come, it’s almost hard to remember any troubles under Dean Smith or Steven Gerrard.
