‘Fantastic’… Tottenham coach Mile Jedinak says he’s been so impressed with one Aston Villa man this season

Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Mile Jedinak has praised Unai Emery for doing a ‘fantastic’ job with Aston Villa.

Speaking on the Optus Sport podcast, the former Aston Villa man lauded Unai Emery ahead of this Sunday’s clash in North London.

Spurs are set to host Villa this weekend as both sides are bidding for a top-four finish this season.

The Villains have enjoyed an exceptional start to the campaign and sit just a point behind fourth-placed Tottenham.

Unai Emery is yet to test defeat at Villa Park but his side’s form on the road has been questionable.

Indeed, Villa have suffered defeats against Newcastle, Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on the road. But they’ll be hopeful of picking up a statement win in North London this weekend given Tottenham’s injury issues.

And Ange Postecoglou’s assistant boss, Mile Jedinak, has been talking about Emery ahead of Sunday’s clash.

Jedinak impressed with ‘fantastic’ Emery

Speaking to Optus Sport, Jedinak was asked about Emery’s spell at Villa Park so far.

“Fantastic job,” the former Villa man said. “It goes without [saying]. It’s nice to see that everyone can see it because I know exactly how hard they work every single day.

“The manager’s fantastic. He’s just transformed the way that he wants that football club to play and what is pleasing is that the lads have taken it all on board.

“That’s the biggest thing – you can see they are enjoying their football. Anyone who’s played, if you’re enjoying your football it makes anyone’s job a hell of a lot easier and you can see that’s what they’re currently doing.”

“From my experiences in and around that environment, I think he’s great,” Jedinak added. “He’s obviously had a fantastic success wherever he’s gone in terms of winning things, particularly in European competition.

“He knows exactly what he wants and how he wants it to be done and he knows the process to get the players there. As a player, he makes it clear for them.”

Emery has deservedly received plenty of plaudits so far this season as he currently has Villa dreaming of a top-four finish.

Not many would have guessed Villa would be three points behind league leaders Manchester City after 12 games played. Especially after the opening-day defeat at Newcastle.

It’s set to be an intriguing match-up between Spurs and Villa this weekend and you’d imagine Emery fancies his chances given Tottenham’s recent form.
