Tony Cascarino has named Aston Villa boss Unai Emery as his Premier League Manager of the Season so far over Tottenham Hotspur’s Ange Postecoglou.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Sunday morning, the pundit also backed Aston Villa to finish above Tottenham this season.
Both Unai Emery and Ange Postecoglou have enjoyed encouraging starts to the new campaign.
Villa currently sit one point behind Spurs in fifth place after a surprisingly brilliant run of form in the early stages of the season.
Tottenham were cruising at the top of the table before a tumultuous week saw them lose to Chelsea and Wolves, with James Maddison and Micky van de Ven both suffering injuries.
And after a couple of disappointing results for Spurs, Tony Cascarino believes Emery has done a better job than Postecoglou so far this season.
Cascarino says Emery has outperformed Postecoglou this season
Speaking on talkSPORT, Cascarino admitted that while Postecoglou has impressed, he can’t look past Emery for his Manager of the Season.
“Look, Postecoglou has done incredibly well but I’m going to go more for Unai Emery because I think I will be proven right and Villa will finish above Spurs by the end of the season and make the Champions League spot,” he said.
“Villa are a really good team. I love the way they’re set up. Will they go into the transfer market in January to improve on what they’ve got?
“I like a lot of their players. I like the way their full-backs, from Lucas Digne to Matty Cash, are used.
“They’ve got a really strong midfield – Douglas Luiz and John McGinn. Ramsey could be back soon, the young lad. And the forward line picks itself, pace and power.
“I think they’ll finish above Spurs and that will be an extraordinary achievement if they make Champions League football, which I think they will.”
Spurs are set to face Villa next weekend as both sides return to action in the Premier League.
It’s set to be an intriguing clash as Villa have struggled slightly away from home this season.
But the Villains have been in formidable form at Villa Park, having won 13 consecutive games on home soil.
Spurs will be without key players such as Cristian Romero, Maddison and Van de Ven. It’s fair to say they looked below their usual best at Wolves last weekend.
