Report: Premier League side now eyeing swoop for ‘fantastic’ Liverpool player

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Manchester United.

According to talkSPORT, the Red Devils are mulling over a move for the Anfield player.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is reportedly eager to leave Liverpool in search of first-team football.

The Reds midfielder has one year remaining on his £125,000-a-week Anfield contract.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been with Liverpool since 2017, when he joined the Reds from Arsenal.

However, the 28-year-old has failed to nail down a regular starting place at Anfield in recent years.

Injuries have hampered his time at Liverpool, but last season, he was fit and available for the most part.

Despite this, Jurgen Klopp often struggled to find room for him in his XI and sometimes even on the bench.

Oxlade-Chamberlain made 29 appearances for the Reds last term, but just 17 were starts.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are now short of numbers in midfield.

The Red Devils have allowed Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic to leave as free agents.

And talkSPORT claims Oxlade-Chamberlain has surfaced on their radar as they look for reinforcements.

However, the Red Devils will reportedly not do business unless Liverpool are willing to sell for £10million.

Southampton are apparently also eyeing Oxlade-Chamberlain.

“Offers something totally different”

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been very unlucky with injuries throughout his time at Liverpool.

And even during a frantic 2021-22 campaign in which the Reds contested every game possible for them, he didn’t get much of a look-in.

Nonetheless, Jurgen Klopp rates the player highly, praising his attitude in the latter stages.

“If these boys (Oxlade-Chamberlain, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones) didn’t show the attitude they had in training all season then we had no chance,” he told The Mirror ahead of the FA Cup final.

Rio Ferdinand has also previously praised Oxlade-Chamberlain.

He hailed the Liverpool man following his brace against Genk in the 2019-20 Champions League.

“He can dribble past people which is hard for a midfielder,” he told BT Sport, via Metro.

“It’s great to see him get back in. I like the way that he gets into those positions.

“Once he gets into those pockets in behind the opposition’s midfield he can dribble and shoot.

“He’s a fantastic footballer… he offers something totally different in the midfield for Liverpool.”

With Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contract expiring, it’s best for both parties if they went their separate ways.

Liverpool can make some money from his sale, while the player can look to get regular football elsewhere.

It remains to be seen whether they’d sell to bitter rivals United, however.
