Alasdair Gold says 18-year-old Tottenham prodigy is in such a great place now

Tottenham Hotspur academy attacker Jamie Donley has been deemed ‘probably the most confident player’ at Spurs right now.

Alasdair Gold sung the 18-year-old Tottenham talent’s praises on the latest episode of the Gold & Guest podcast.

Donley has been making waves in the Tottenham academy and has been tipped as a future star for Spurs.

The teenager’s stats this season make for staggering reading. He has six goals and 11 assists from 11 games at Under-21 level for Tottenham.

Donley’s efforts have helped Spurs U21s go top of the Premier League 2 table, with eight wins from eight.

‘He’s scoring the goals’

Gold stressed that Tottenham shouldn’t just throw Donley in at the deep end, but he feels the player should certainly be in the conversation with regards to pushing for the first team.

“I’m not saying throw him in at the start whatsoever and I think he needs to be brought in carefully,” said the football.london reporter.

“But when everyone’s looking at Veliz to get some minutes, or Ashley Phillips to get some minutes, you’ve got a player who is probably the most confident player at Tottenham Hotspur right now Jamie Donley.

“He’s just won the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award as well, everything he’s doing is coming off.

“He’s got a great vision, he’s got a great ability to thread a ball through, he can cross a ball in, he takes set pieces as well at times and when he’s a striker and he’s through on goal, he’s scoring the goals.”

Donley looks like he has a bright future at Tottenham – TBR View

Tottenham have had plenty of top talents in recent years – Harry Kane, Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and so on – and that’s certainly the case today as well.

However, under previous managers, there didn’t seem to be much of a pathway between the academy and the first team.

With Ange Postecoglou now in charge at Tottenham, hopefully we’ll see more of this. And Donley certainly looks like a player with a bright future ahead of him.

Donley is yet to make his senior Spurs debut, but the way he’s playing, surely he’ll get at least a few subs’ outings between now and the end of the campaign.

Then, next year, we could well see Tottenham send Donley out on loan to a higher-end EFL club to get first-team experience.
