Ajax now considering January move for ‘brilliant’ £26m-rated Tottenham star

Ajax are considering a move for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder one of the names under consideration ahead of the January transfer window.

That is according to Voetbal International, which notes that a number of options are being looked at by the Dutch side.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is surely one Tottenham player with a question mark over his position heading into January. Despite being a key player for much of his time in North London, he has fallen down the pecking order since Ange Postecoglou was appointed.

There is interest heading into the next window. Juventus are admirers of the £26 million-rated Hojbjerg. And Voetbal International is now reporting that Ajax are keen on Hojbjerg as they look to sign a central midfielder.

Potential dilemma for Tottenham

Tottenham want to keep Hojbjerg in January. And they are facing a potential dilemma of their own in the new year, with both Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr set to be on international duty for several weeks.

If Hojbjerg stays therefore, he could have an important role to play at the start of the second-half of the campaign.

However, the situation may change if Tottenham receive a big bid. Hojbjerg is not a first-choice under Postecoglou. And the Spurs boss will have targets of his own for January.

So if Ajax do manage to make a good offer for the Denmark international, Tottenham will have some food for thought.

Hojbjerg has the potential to be a ‘brilliant‘ player. But if he is not someone Postecoglou plans to rely on, then it makes sense to consider the bids which come in.

And he may relish the chance to join a club such as Ajax. Despite their terrible start to the campaign, they are obviously a heavyweight in the Netherlands. So it may be a tempting move at this stage of his career.
