Tottenham could make an extra signing in January if £15m player leaves

Tottenham Hotspur might have a bit of work to do in the January transfer window.

The north London club need a new centre-half, while they could perhaps do with a new attacker as well.

However, there’s also the potential that Spurs add another midfielder to their squad in January.

Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing Spurs’ January plans, and he says that there is a chance that Tottenham go and sign a midfielder if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leaves the club during the window.

Extra signing possible if Hojbjerg leaves

Bailey shared what he knows about Spurs’ transfer plans and the £15m man.

“They do want to do a few things, they wanted a centre-half anyway, going forwards, Eric Dier is available at the end of the season on a free, Ben Davies, we don’t see him having a long-term future,” Bailey said.

“A midfielder is a possibility, but I think that is dependant on whether or not Hojbjerg leaves. If he leaves they will sign a replacement, they are looking around.”

Need one anyway

Tottenham might go and sign a new midfielder if Hojbjerg is sold, but we’d argue that they may need a new player in that position regardless of what happens.

Indeed, with Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr both off to the African Cup of Nations in January, Spurs will be short in the midfield, and a loan signing in the winter could be just what the doctor ordered in that position.

Tottenham have faltered over the past few weeks, but make no mistake about it, Spurs will still have one eye on the title race, and that period over January and February when the Cup of Nations is being played will be vital.

Keep an eye on midfield movements at Tottenham in the winter.
