Tottenham are now expecting their £20m player to stay in January

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be in for a busy January transfer window as injuries and further squad rebuilding shapes their plans.

A nightmare month has seen both James Maddison and Micky van de Ven ruled out through injury. Both are expected to be out until the new year. Others are injured too, such as Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic and it’s expected Daniel Levy will back Ange Postecoglou.

Of course, some of Spurs’ moves in the market could depend on outgoings. A lot has been made on that front about Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with reports suggesting there is interest in the Dane.

However while the £20m signing from Southampton is wanted, a report from The Sun today has suggested Hojbjerg might well stay put.

According to The Sun, both Hojbjerg and fellow midfielder, Giovani Lo Celso, could both wind up staying at Spurs unless they decide to push for a move away.

Both players have played recently and are likely to be used more and more by Postecoglou over the winter.

Hojbjerg and Lo Celso likely to stay at Tottenham

There was always going to be a time this season where one of or both of these players needed using by Postecoglou. It’s why his management of the club has been so good, in that the pair are both fit and ready to play their part now.

Letting either of Hojbjerg or Lo Celso in January – certainly without a replacement – would be a nightmare move by the club.

The pair are both international players and you don’t simply find replacements for them easily in January.

The news that both are willing to stay will be welcomed by Spurs fans and no doubt, Big Ange.
