Journalist claims ‘outstanding’ Tottenham player wants to leave with ‘big clubs’ eyeing him

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg continues to be linked with a move away from Spurs.

And according to journalist Paul Brown, the Tottenham ace has “made his mind up” regarding his future.

Hojbjerg’s Spurs future looked uncertain in the summer amid links with the likes of Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Fulham.

The 28-year-old ended up staying put at Spurs, but he’s yet to get significant game time this season.

Hojbjerg has 12 outings to his name this term, but just three have been starts. He has just 463 minutes of game time under his belt.

Injuries and suspensions have led to the Denmark international receiving more minutes as the campaign went on.

However, it remains to be seen how much game time Hojbjerg would get with a fully fit squad.

Ange Postecoglou favours Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr in midfield, plus Rodrigo Bentancur is back from injury now.

‘Pretty big clubs’

Brown, writing on GiveMeSport, reckons Hojbjerg has made his mind up and he wants to depart after being told he was allowed to leave in the summer transfer window.

The journalist adds that the £110,000-a-week (Salarysport) ace is in the team for now due to injuries, but it’s not going to last long.

“I think Hojbjerg has made his mind up that he wants to leave,” wrote Brown.

“He was told that he could leave if the right deal came along in the last window and I think that probably made his mind up.

“He’s in the team now because of injuries, but it doesn’t look like he’s going to stay there for very long and I think he knows it.

“At this stage of his career, he wants to be playing regularly and there are some pretty big clubs looking at him who’d be able to give him more game time than Spurs.”

Whenever a player who was once a regular starter finds himself on the fringes of the squad, transfer speculation will always start doing the rounds.

Hojbjerg is a player who is accustomed to being a regular starter if fit, and it doesn’t look like Tottenham can give him starts, he may well push for a move.

It’s a bit of a shame as he’s an ‘absolutely outstanding‘ player, but if he’s not keen on being a back-up, then it’s best if everyone finds a solution in the January window.
