Tottenham now want to sign ‘special’ £25m midfielder to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in January

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Fluminense midfielder Andre Trindade and are considering selling Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in January.

That’s according to talkSPORT, with the outlet claiming Hojbjerg could head out the door should Andre arrive in North London.

Spurs look set to dip into the market in January following injuries to key players over the past week.

Indeed, James Maddison is set to be out until the New Year while Micky van de Ven has suffered the same fate.

It leaves Tottenham short of options at centre-back and also lacking creativity in the middle of the park.

While Ange Postecoglou was widely expected to target a new defender, Maddison’s injury could force them into the market for a midfielder.

And it seems that Spurs could enter the race to sign Andre, which could lead to Hojbjerg’s departure.

Tottenham want Andre to replace Hojbjerg

TalkSPORT reports that Tottenham are the latest Premier League side to consider a move for Andre.

The Brazilian midfielder has already been heavily linked with moves to Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal

It’s noted that should Andre move to Tottenham, they would consider the sale of Hojbjerg.

Andre, who won the Copa Libertadores with Fluminense, has been described as a ‘special’ midfielder.

The 22-year-old has starred in Brazil over the past couple of years and is currently a man in demand in the Premier League.

Fluminense are reportedly looking for around £25 million to sell their star player, with many top sides keen.

Spurs are in need of extra quality in midfield as recent displays have shown they lack the required depth to challenge at the top end of the league.

Hojbjerg has been a reliable performer for Spurs over the past few years. But the 27-year-old doesn’t seem well-suited to Postecoglou’s preferred style of play.

Of course, it would be a risk from Tottenham to replace Hojbjerg with a player who is unproven in Europe. But Andre does seem like a player who would be better suited to Postecoglou’s demands than the likes of Hojbjerg.
