‘He wants to sign him’…Arsenal ready to sell £18m player after latest manager comments

Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga is on his way back to full fitness and Luton manager Rob Edwards wants to sign him.

The Belgian has been with the Hatters since the summer but suffered a serious injury to hamper his progress.

However, he is now making his way back to being ready for action and according to journalist Charles Watts, Luton boss Edwards would simply love to have Lokonga onboard permanently.

Luton want to sign Albert Sambi Lokonga from Arsenal

Speaking on his YouTube channel today, Watts confirmed that Arsenal would be open to selling their £18m signing.

“He is beginning to get closer to a return and Rob Edwards has just been speaking about him and basically said he wants to sign him on a permanent basis. I think Arsenal would be open to a sale but whether Luton can afford him would depend if they stay in the PL this season,” Watts said.

“The whole reason Arsenal sent him out on loan was to get him game time after it became pretty obvious he wasn’t going to reach the level to be an Arsenal player. But he just needed to play and he’s never going to get to play at the moment. He never really took his opportunities and Arsenal spent big money on him. It hasn’t worked but hopefully he can come back for Luton and show he can do it in the Premier League.”

No way back for Lokonga

Watts mentions this in his video but sometimes a signing just doesn’t work out very well and this is the case here with Lokonga.

The young midfielder never quite looked the business in an Arsenal shirt but that doesn’t mean he can’t forge a Premier League career either.

If he can get fit and sign for Luton, then he will have a great chance of achieving something in England.

Rob Edwards is a good young manager and Lokonga has already impressed, that is clear.

Whether or not Luton ever get into a position to afford around £18m mind, remains to be seen.
