‘Ridiculous’…BBC pundit slams £17m Tottenham player against Manchester City

Tottenham played Manchester City today in another entertaining encounter on a busy Super Sunday of Premier League action.

As expected, Tottenham didn’t defer from their usual plan and it was all out attack from the get-go for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

However, they did leave themselves wide open once again and Man City could easily have scored more goals, especially in the first half and early second half.

One of the main issues for Spurs was consistently giving the ball away in defence. And goalkeeper Vicario was just as guilty as anyone on that front.

The Italian has been a revelation since signing for around £17m but put his team under pressure at times today with needless passes.

And watching on for the BBC, Dion Dublin branded what Vicario was trying as ‘ridiculous’.

“What are Spurs doing? What are they trying to do Why is the keeper trying to play an outside of the boot pass to a teammate when he is surrounded by sky blue shirts? Ridiculous pass. Play the ball up the pitch and re-group,” Dublin said.

Vicario is under instruction from Ange

It’s a good point from Dublin this and there were times today where you seriously wondered what Tottenham’s defenders were doing, as well as Vicario.

However, the goalkeeper is clearly under instruction from Ange Postecoglou to do just what he’s doing and at times, it’s going to put them under pressure.

Vicario has been outstanding so far for Tottenham and in fairness, rarely gets it wrong when it comes to trying to play out from the back.

But against the top sides like City it can come undone and had Erling Haaland had his shooting boots on, then the game might have been done and dusted by half-time.
