‘Phenomenal’: BBC Sport pundit utterly blown away by £3m Leeds player today

Leeds United triumphed against Bournemouth in a rollercoaster Premier League game at Elland Road on Saturday.

Jesse Marsch’s Whites took an early lead, only to end up trailing 2-1 at half time.

There were boos from the Elland Road stands at the break as Cherries fans sang ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’.

Things then took a turn for the worse as the visitors made it three not long after the restart.

But Leeds turned things around in some style, netting twice in quick succession midway through the second half.

And then, six minutes from time, the Whites scored the winner, sending Elland Road into raptures.

The second goal came from Leeds substitute Sam Greenwood on the hour, and what an effort it was.

After Pascal Struijk saw his effort blocked, the 20-year-old was first to the ball.

Greenwood sized up a shot and nonchalantly curled home an outstanding finish from outside the box.

BBC Sport pundit James McFadden loved what he saw from the £3million gem.

“Greenwood just steps onto it with his side foot from about 20 yards and whips it beyond Travers in the Bournemouth goal,” he said on BBC Radio 5 Live, via the BBC Sport website (5/11/22, 16:26).

“Absolutely no chance with it. What a goal from Leeds United and they are well back in this game now.

“What composure to execute it – it was a bouncing ball.

“To step on to it and whip it with the power he did, phenomenal!”

Six minutes later, Liam Cooper rose highest from a corner to head the home side level.

And six minutes from time, Leeds completed their turnaround with a Crysencio Summerville winner.

Leeds broke following a free-kick and Wilfried Gnonto did brilliantly to carry the ball.

The 19-year-old then set up the Dutch winger to fire in, sending Elland Road wild.

‘Stunning’

Greenwood, who replaced Marc Roca early on in the second half, earned an 8 out of 10 rating from Leeds Live.

‘A stunning goal and equalising assist,’ they wrote.

‘Should not be forgotten in the hype around Summerville and Gnonto. Huge quality to pull the game back to Leeds.’
