Norwich City are interested in Charlie Cresswell and are monitoring the Leeds United loanee in case the Whites change their mind about his future, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (9/10; page 61).
Cresswell is currently out on loan with Millwall. And he could not have got off to a better start to life at the Den, scoring twice on his debut.
However, more recently, the 20-year-old has been left out of the last two squads altogether. And after Gary Rowett’s side kept a clean sheet on Saturday against Middlesbrough, perhaps it is fair to say that the centre-back faces a fight to get back into the fold.
Nevertheless, he is attracting interest.
The Sun on Sunday (9/10; page 61) reports that Norwich are monitoring Cresswell.
The report notes that Leeds still have Cresswell as part of their long-term plans. However, the Canaries are waiting in the wings in case anything changes.
Norwich interested in Cresswell
Cresswell is going through a trickier period out on loan. But that is exactly why the youngster was given the chance to leave in the first place.
He had done all he could with the under-23s. And with Leeds’ youngsters being relegated last season, you would imagine that Cresswell would not benefit at all from playing at a lower level.
Unfortunately, it appears to be too soon for a regular first-team spot under Jesse Marsch. Leeds have Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk ahead in the pecking order.
Perhaps there will be discussions in January if Leeds have the option to recall Cresswell. In that instance, it may be wise to send him elsewhere should he struggle to regain his spot in the Millwall side.
But the idea of selling him to Norwich will surely not cross the mind of anyone at Elland Road.
He is an ‘excellent‘ prospect with a huge ceiling. And one difficult patch with Millwall is unlikely to change that perception.
Certainly, if Cresswell realises anything like his full potential, it will not be too long before he is playing regularly for Leeds.
