Joe Gelhardt and Crysencio Summerville were amongst the players to laud Charlie Cresswell on Instagram after the Leeds United loanee marked his Millwall debut with two goals in their opening day victory.
Leeds fans will always have happy memories of facing Stoke City in the Championship curtain-raiser. Of course, the Potters were the Whites’ first opponents following the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa. And that day provided a tantalising taste of what was to come during the Argentinian’s tenure.
Both Cresswell and Jamie Shackleton made their Millwall bows against Stoke on Saturday. And it proved to be a dream debut for the centre-back in particular.
The Lions won 2-0 at the Den. And it was Cresswell who scored both of the goals.
The first came from a first-half header as Millwall tormented Stoke from set-pieces all day. The second also came from a corner. However, the finish that followed would not have looked out of place coming from the foot of Patrick Bamford.
Cresswell made a brilliant run to lose his marker and get to the edge of the six-yard box. And then, with tremendous control, the 19-year-old volleyed the ball home with the inside of his foot.

Leeds fans will not be at all surprised to see Cresswell thrive while out on loan. He looks to be an unbelievable prospect with a big future ahead.
He is unlucky to have so many options ahead of him in the pecking order. In truth, he looked a class act whenever he got the chance to play in the Premier League.
Obviously, it is his development as a defender that will be being most closely monitored by Leeds. But a few goals along the way will certainly help him catch the eye.
