BBC Sport pundit Clinton Morrison believes Leeds United youngster Charlie Cresswell needs to be “a bit more streetwise”.
His comments came after the 19-year-old Whites talent made a reckless challenge in the Wolves game that saw him earn a yellow card.
Cresswell came on for Mateusz Klich in first-half injury time at Molineux after the 31-year-old had to come off due to concussion.
The Leeds academy graduate performed well overall, although he did have a few head-loss moments in the match.
One of those came midway through the second half, a studs-down challenge on Rayan Ait-Nouri which led to his booking.
Charlie Cresswell is a young lad… just be careful,” Morrison said on BBC Radio 5 Live. “The atmosphere is intense now.
“The referee will try to even it out and the crowd are going to be on the referee to make these decisions. Cresswell needs to be a bit more streetwise.”
It’s not too surprising that a 19-year-old thrown in at the deep end in such a high stakes game might struggle to keep his composure at times.
However, Cresswell’s performance was great overall, showing he’s more than capable of shining in the Premier League.
Leeds look to be on the right track and Cresswell certainly looks like he’s got a huge future at Elland Road.
With the international break on the horizon, the youngster is likely to feature for England Under-21s over the next fortnight.
Cresswell has retained his place in Lee Carsley’s squad, having featured in their last two games against Czech Republic and Georgia.
England U21s have two European qualifiers this month.
The Young Lions face Andorra at Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium next Friday before heading to the Elbasan Arena to face Albania the following Tuesday.
