Chelsea ready to sell ‘hugely-talented’ player to fund move for £120m Arsenal target

Chelsea are one of the teams interested in signing Victor Osimhen and they could sell one of their top youngsters to fund the move.

The Blues are believed to be ready to test Napoli’s resolve in January with a bid for Osimhen. 90Min

claims Todd Boehly’s outfit will look at bringing the Nigerian to England in January.

Chelsea, of course, have splashed a huge amount of money in recent windows and with Osimhen set to cost around £120m, they might need to bring some funds into the club.

And according to 90Min, that could see Manchester City target Ian Maatsen sold.

Chelsea to sell Ian Maatsen to help with Osimhen move

According to the report, Chelsea are looking to move a few players on as they look to work their budgets to enable them to land Osimhen, who is also being linked with a move to Arsenal.

The main players of focus on that front are Trevoh Chalobah and fellow defender, Ian Maatsen.

Maatsen very nearly moved in the summer but turned down a permanent £31.5m switch to Burnley, where he had enjoyed a fine loan spell in the Championship.

Lauded in The Athletic as a player who is ‘hugely talented’, Maatsen could fetch a healthy sum in for the Blues.

Fringe players can go for big players

Let’s be right here, Chelsea have signed enough players in recent windows that they can more than afford to lose a few now.

The likes of Maatsen and Chalobah are not getting chances under Pochettino and if they can bring in funds to help get deals done for players of Osimhen’s quality, then it’s a no-brainer.

For Maatsen, there might well be an element of regret in his decision over the summer now. Of course, Burnley are bottom, so he might also think he got away with it as well.

For Chelsea, it does seem they’re now at a place where only the best will do. They have so many good young players but to get them to the next level, genuine world class players are needed.

Victor Osimhen is very much in that bracket.
