‘I rate him’…Chris Sutton says 24-year-old Arsenal player has to prove the doubters wrong

Chris Sutton has once again been speaking about Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and admits he still has some doubts over him.

Nketiah has had to step up recently with Gabriel Jesus injured and he banged in a fine hat-trick against Sheffield United a few weeks ago.

However, he was benched for today’s win over Burnley and saw Leandro Trossard once again get himself a goal.

And speaking about Nketiah on BBC’s Football Focus before the game today, former PL striker Sutton admitted he does rate Nketiah, but sees room for improvement.

Chris Sutton wants Eddie Nketiah to do even more for Arsenal

Speaking on the BBC today, Sutton had the following to say on Nketiah.

“I rate him very highly. I still think he has a big point to prove at Arsenal. I think there are doubters and whether he is going to be the main centre-forward for Arsenal, so this is a big season for him. Do I think he can finish? Yes I do. Do I think he’s ruthless enough? I don’t. We saw a situation earlier in the season where he handed the ball over to Vieira. Go and get your fourth goal. All the best strikers I played with, Shearer, Larsson, there’s no way they’d do that. So that’s something which he can change,” Sutton said.

This is not the first time Sutton has spoken about Nketiah in recent weeks. Sutton clearly rates Nketiah and said as much a few weeks back.

However, it is clear whenever anyone has an opinion on Nketiah that they believe the talent is there but he’s still not the finished article.

All the best strikers in the best teams often end up being the best player and most important. At the moment, Nketiah is not that for Arsenal and until he is, there’ll always be question marks.

At 24, he is no longer a young man making his way in the game. This season and the next few will define his legacy in the game and it’s absolutely vital he scores goals for the Gunners.

If he can’t do that this season, then there’s no doubt Mikel Arteta will go and spend on a number nine who can.
