‘Bad’…BBC pundit slams 23-year-old Arsenal player for what he did v Burnley

Fabio Vieira was given a red card as Arsenal won once more at The Emirates today, seeing off Burnley with relative ease.

Leandro Trossard’s opener in the first half set the Gunners on their way and despite conceding an equaliser, they roared back with goals from William Saliba and Oleksandr Zinchenko to secure another big three points.

Of course, the red card for Vieira in the second half soured things a touch. Indeed, it came after a week where the club had slated officials, and it once again puts Arsenal in the spotlight.

However, Mikel Arteta can surely have few complaints on this one. And watching on for the BBC, Nedum Onuoha believes Vieira has little to moan about on this one.

Pundit says Fabio Vieira deserved red card v Burnley

Speaking for the BBC, former Man City defender Onuoha conceded the Arsenal midfielder would have no comeback thanks to his challenge.

“It’s a bad challenge from Fabio Vieira. There is no intent there as such but he is endangering the opponent. It is hurting me just looking back at it on the replay. It will be interesting to see what Mikel Arteta makes of that one after the game,” Onuoha said.

For Vieira, it’s a bitter blow given he is struggling to get starts for Arsenal. He was introduced fairly early in the second half in place of Kai Havertz but will now be suspended.

Mikel Arteta will also be disappointed in his midfielder. Vieira is someone who needs to come in and be ready to deliver when called upon and now he’s out of the picture.

Arsenal, of course, got the result in the end and it’s another solid home display from them.

However, they did look a bit shaky at times v Burnley today and a better side might well have managed a few more goals against them.

So, while the three points are secured again, it’s a dismal end to the week for Vieira really.
