Eddie Howe shares what Newcastle fans may not know about Lewis Miley

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has spoken about Lewis Miley’s personality and character in wake of his rise to prominence this season.

The Magpies boss, speaking to TNT Sports, says you “wouldn’t have known” just how composed the youngster has been over the past few weeks.

Miley has broken into the Newcastle first team this season, making five appearances to date for the Magpies this term.

The 17-year-old, who made his debut last season, has played against the likes of Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund this term.

Miley has also been impressive against such high-calibre teams. He registered an assist against the Blues in his first PL start, and was ‘outrageously composed‘ against PSG.

Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley is ‘very calm about things that approach him’

Asked how Miley had handled the enormity of such a week, Howe said: “I think it’s testament to his stability as a character, he is very level and laid back.

“Not laid back in a bad way but just very calm about things that approach him. I think Chelsea and his first start for the club. You wouldn’t have known it was different to any other day for him.

“I think that served him well, same in Paris. He just went about his job and did really well in both games.

“He’s not an outlandish personality, he’s quite quiet at the moment, but I’m sure as time goes on we will see his personality develop and change. He’s a really good person and very good footballer.”

For a 17-year-old player to not only be playing regular first-team football but impressing against some of the biggest clubs in the world is no mean feat.

Miley has done just that. He’s not 18 until next May, but already he’s looking like an upper Premier League and Champions League footballer.

Newcastle have an absolutely remarkable young player in their ranks and it’ll be exciting to see how he continues to develop for the resurgent Magpies in the coming years.
