Sam Greenwood lauds Leeds teammate Patrick Bamford

Sam Greenwood has told The Official Leeds United Podcast that he really looks up to Patrick Bamford, and suggested that the striker’s movement is the best he has ever seen.

Greenwood has shone since Jesse Marsch replaced Marcelo Bielsa. He has provided two assists across his last two appearances. And he was lauded by Marsch following his cameo at Watford last weekend.

Of course, his chance has come about because of Bamford suffering another injury setback at Wolves. It was the 20-year-old who replaced the £10 million England international at Molineux. And he has certainly made the most of the opportunity.

He will be hoping to make Bamford’s task of getting back into the side as difficult as possible. But Greenwood obviously sees how important working with Bamford is for his development.

“He’s been great. Obviously, I look up to people like him everyday in training, trying to study off people like him. His movement, I think it’s second to none. It’s one of the best I’ve seen. People like him, I’m always looking up to and learning everyday in training. He’s a great guy to look up to, and he’s such a nice guy as well,” he told The Official Leeds United Podcast.

Leeds have exciting forward line waiting in wings with Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt pushing Bamford and Rodrigo

Had Leeds fans been told that one young forward would really shine under Marsch, it is likely that the large majority would assume that Joe Gelhardt had kicked on.

Gelhardt has done little wrong. And his winner against Norwich could prove to be a massive moment in the season. But injury has prevented him featuring more.

And Greenwood’s stock is now approaching a similar level. It is seriously exciting that Leeds have both players knocking on the door.

They played so well together for the under-23s. And they are now becoming more and more prominent fixtures in Marsch’s match day squads.

Rodrigo is playing brilliantly right now. And Bamford’s importance was highlighted in the minutes he did play against Norwich and Wolves.

But the pair definitely now have competition in the form of Greenwood and Gelhardt.
