‘I know for a fact’… £60m striker was absolutely desperate to join Tottenham

Ivan Toney has been the talk of the transfer window over the past six months.

The Brentford striker is said to be a target for many top Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea.

However, according to Martin Lipton, speaking on The Spurs Show Podcast, once upon a time, Toney had his heart set on a move to Tottenham.

Indeed, speaking on the podcast, Lipton shared that he knows for a fact that Toney was desperate to join Spurs 18 months ago at a time when Manchester United genuinely thought they had a shot at signing Harry Kane.

Ivan Toney was desperate to join Tottenham

Lipton shared what he knows about the £60m man.

“I know for a fact that 18 months ago, when United thought they were going to get Kane, Toney was desperate to go to Spurs, and his agent was pushing really hard,” Lipton said.

Ivan Toney would still be a good signing

By the sounds of it, Toney was very much open to a move to Spurs, and if he still is, perhaps Tottenham should revisit this one.

Indeed, as good as Spurs have been this season, the reality is that they still haven’t truly replaced Harry Kane, and Toney could fit that bill perfectly.

The Brentford striker is incredibly clinical in front of goal, and as he heads into the final 18 months of his contract, he’ll be itching to move to a big club soon.

Of course, competition from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea makes things difficult on this front, but we’ve seen Tottenham flex their muscles in the transfer market before.

This may well be one to keep an eye on as it sounds as though Toney would be up for a move to Tottenham if the opportunity presents itself.
