‘Interesting’… Journalist shares what people at Celtic have said to him about Jota and Ange Postecoglou

Jota has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham recently.

The Portuguese winger is out of favour at Al-Ittihad right now, and a return to the UK could be on the cards for the attacker.

Ange Postecoglou is, as we all know, a big fan of Jota from his time at Celtic. However, according to Alasdair Gold, speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, people in Glasgow don’t necessarily think this would be a smart move.

Gold says that he has spoken to people at Celtic in the past about which players from Celtic Park could come to Tottenham to join the Postecoglou revolution, and he says that nobody at Celtic ever suggested that Jota would be a good fit for such a move.

Nobody at Celtic has tipped Jota to Tottenham

Gold shared what he’s heard from Celtic about Jota.

“Jota makes sense for me, but I did find it interesting when speaking to people in and around Celtic when Postecoglou came I asked which players should he bring with him and Jota wasn’t on their list. I don’t know if that was a feeling that he couldn’t make it in the Premier League, if there were any doubts under that, and now he’s in the Saudi Pro League and he wasn’t even registered, now he can only play in Asian Champions League games and cups and stuff like that,” Gold said.

Strange that Jota hasn’t been tipped for Tottenham

It has to be said that it is strange that nobody at Celtic tipped Jota to follow Ange to Tottenham.

Jota was probably the one player at Celtic who seemed ready for a bigger move last season, and he was very much a good fit for Postecoglou’s style.

It’s unclear why nobody at Celtic thought this wasn’t a good idea, but this does cast an element of doubt over whether or not this touted January move will actually go ahead or not.

Jota is said to be a player of interest to Tottenham, so this is one to keep an eye on.
