‘Going to leave’… Fabrizio Romano now says £25m Tottenham target is going to be sold in January

Chelsea got through so much business in the summer, but they still have a few players they need to shift off of their wage bill.

The likes of Malang Sarr are still on the books at Stamford Bridge, and, in January, the Blues do need to ship a few players out.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has named one player who is set to leave Stamford Bridge in January – Trevoh Chalobah.

The Italian spoke about the Blues’ January plans, and he claims that the £25m centre-back is going to be sold in January.

Interestingly, this comes against a backdrop of interest from Tottenham who tried to sign Chalobah on deadline day.

Chalobah leaving

Romano shared what he knows about the Chelsea defender.

“Also guys, today we have had rumours about Benoit Badiashille and a January move, from what I’m hearing the only player who is expected to leave Chelsea in that position in January is Trevoh Chalobah. Chalobah is going to leave Chelsea in January and for Badiashille, Chelsea invested a lot of money last year, so letting him go cheaply, is not something Chelsea are considering. For Chelsea, the idea is very clear, the player leaving in January is Trevoh Chalobah,” Romano said.

Spurs would make sense

Chalobah will seemingly be on the chopping block at Chelsea in January, and it has to be said that a move to Tottenham would make the world of sense.

Spurs are seriously lacking depth at centre-back, and they’re also going to be struggling in midfield by the time the African Cup of Nations starts, so why not sign a player who can do both roles?

Chalobah is able to play both at the back and in the midfield with ease, and with Tottenham potentially looking to plug both of those gaps in January, a move to north London could make a lot of sense for the Chelsea ace.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
