Bournemouth XI if they kept their best players featuring Aaron Ramsdale

Scott Parker was relegated from the Premier League twice during his time as manager of Fulham but he’ll be hoping for a change of fortunes in the top-flight with Bournemouth.

The former England midfielder secured promotion to the big time for the second time during his career after guiding the Cherries to second place.

With survival being the Vitality Stadium side’s likely only target next season, TBR takes a look at a Bournemouth XI if they kept their best players.

Kicking off the Bournemouth XI if they kept their best players – the one-time England international had one season as the Cherries number one and that was the club’s last season in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old played 37 times in the top-flight, conceding 62 goals, before re-joining his former club Sheffield United for £18.5m.

After suffering relegation with the Blades, the man who was included in England’s European Championship squad was signed by Arsenal for £24m.

Ramsdale has had an impressive first season in north London and earned 12 clean sheets from 34 Premier League games.

The full-back has been with the Cherries since signing from Tottenham eight-and-a-half years ago, and he’s gone on to amass over 300 appearances for the south coast side.

The 31-year-old has played 144 times in the Premier League and his experience will be vital for the Bournemouth dressing room next season.

The Dutchman may have back-to-back Premier League titles to his name, but he hasn’t established himself as a regular in Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side, following his £40m move.

The 27-year-old has started 19 Premier League games in two years, and his lack of game time could put the centre-back in a predicament this summer ahead of the winter World Cup.

The Netherlands international, who will be hoping to impress national boss Louis van Gaal, could be a wildcard option when it comes to former Bournemouth players that Parker could target.

The former Ipswich Town man couldn’t nail down a first team place under Eddie Howe for the Cherries and he joined Aston Villa on an initial loan on the final day of the 2019 January transfer window.

After helping the Villains secure promotion to the Premier League, via the play-offs, Dean Smith and chief executive Christian Purslow splashed out £20m to sign the left-footer on a permanent deal six months later.

Villa’s club captain, who has 17 England caps to his name, hasn’t started less than 33 games during his three seasons in the Premier League, but with Steven Gerrard splashing the cash at Villa Park, his place in the starting line-up might not be guaranteed.

The £13m signing from Bristol City has helped fire the Cherries back to the big time and Kelly will now be looking to impress in the Premier League.

Securing promotion will likely result in Bournemouth fending off any interest in the 23-year-old, who has been linked with a reunion with Howe at Newcastle United this summer.

The tough-tackling Colombian midfielder was signed for a club-record £25m from La Liga side Levante in 2018, following an impressive World Cup.

The South American has relished the physical challenges the English game presents and in his four seasons at the Vitality Stadium, Lerma has 45 yellow and four red cards to his name.

The 27-year-old’s presence and ability to protect the defence will likely prove vital for Parker next season.

Lerma’s partner at the heart of Parker’s midfield is likely to be the towering Billing who had his best season in a Bournemouth jersey during the last campaign.

The two-time Denmark international, who the Cherries signed from Huddersfield Town for £15m in July 2019, scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists from 40 Championship games.

Billing and Lerma will be hoping to win several midfield battles back in the Premier League next season.

Ryan Fraser

The Scotland international will not be remembered fondly for the way he handled his exit from the Cherries.

Fraser ended his eight-year spell in June 2020 after deciding not to sign a short-term contract extension that would have seen him end the 2019/20 campaign with the south coast club, following Project Restart.

The winger, who didn’t want to put his move to Newcastle in jeopardy, sat back and watched Howe’s Bournemouth get relegated.

The 28-year-old, who is playing under Howe once again at the Magpies, scored seven goals and provided 14 assists during the 2018-19 Premier League campaign.

What a first season the Netherlands international has had in Spain with Unai Emery’s Villarreal.

Danjuma scored 16 goals, six of which came in the Champions League, and laid on four assists for the Yellow Submarine.

The 25-year-old, who scored 17 goals and provided eight assists for the Cherries last season has become one of the most sought after forwards across Europe.

Bournemouth signed the former Club Brugge man for £13.7m before selling him to Villarreal last August for £21.3m.

Cherries fans will be hoping that Solanke can transfer his devastating goalscoring form in the Championship over to the Premier League.

The £19m signing from Liverpool scored 29 goals in the Championship last season, which only Aleksandar Mitrovic (43) could better.

The 24-year-old has 44 goals from his last two seasons in the second-tier of English football, but he only has four Premier League goals from 63 appearances.

We come to the end of the Bournemouth XI if they kept their best players and Danny Ings doesn’t feature in the side.

TBR have instead gone with Wilson to partner Solanke up front given Wilson’s impressive goalscoring figures during his time on the south coast.

Similar to Fraser, Wilson’s best season came in 2018-19 where he scored 14 goals and provided 10 assists from 30 appearances.

Wilson, who joined Newcastle for £20m following Bournemouth’s relegation to the Championship, finished his Cherries career with 67 goals and 30 assists from 187 matches.
