Relegated Premier League players that could be snapped up this summer

Yet another captivating Premier League season has come to an end and on a enthralling final day of the season, it was Burnley who joined Norwich City and Watford in getting relegated to the Championship.

Despite caretaker manager Mike Jackson picking up 11 points from eight games, the Clarets’ six-year stay in the Premier League has come to an end.

The Turf Moor side like the Canaries and Hornets will be hoping to bounce straight back up to the big time at the first time of asking.

TBR has already taken a look at Burnley’s last XI to play in the Championship which came in a 3-0 win against Charlton Athletic at The Valley in May 2016.

With the season reaching its conclusion, TBR takes a look at the relegated Premier League players that could be snapped up this summer.

Despite being relegated to the second-tier of English football, Burnley have attached a £40m price tag to their star goalkeeper Pope.

The 30-year-old already has Fulham and West Ham United chasing his signature, according to The Sun.

The eight-time England international, who will be hoping to secure a place in England’s World Cup squad, isn’t going to be short of suitors and he once again regularly produced miracles in the Burnley goal and showcased his impressive shot stopping qualities.

The Telegraph have reported that Norwich will sell the English youngster, as they have been relegated the Championship.

The 22-year-old has spent two of the last four seasons in the Championship, but it’s highly unlikely that he will make that three of out of five campaigns come next season.

The Sun reported last month that Arsenal and Manchester United are leading the race for the England Under-21 international who is valued at £20m.

James Tarkowski

Tarkowski’s six-and-a-half year stay at Turf Moor looks nailed on to come to an end this summer with his contract with the Clarets expiring at the end of next month.

The two-time England international was a vital cog in Sean Dyche’s Burnley side and 90min claim Tarkowski had informed the Lancashire-based club that he would be leaving whether the club retained their top-flight status or not.

West Ham and Newcastle are both interested in signing the powerful and experienced centre-halve on a free transfer.

Grant Hanley

Being captain of the side that conceded a league high 84 goals this season isn’t likely going to result in Hanley being a man in demand this summer.

The Scotland international will likely try and spearhead Norwich’s promotion charge in the Championship, but he could be a good squad player in the top-flight.

The 30-year-old looks more comfortable in the Championship, but if he was playing in a solid and stable backline, he could prove to be shrewd addition for sides in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Despite only arriving at Vicarage Road in January, the Ivory Coast international was crowned Watford’s Player of the Season.

The 28-year-old joined the Hornets from Ligue 1 side Nice and has started 18 Premier League games. He scored his first goal in English football against Manchester City in a 5-1 loss at the Etihad Stadium.

The left-back may have only played the second half of the Premier League campaign, but he finished third in the league’s interceptions charts (94).

He narrowly missed out on ousting Jan Bednarek (95) and Declan Rice (96), according to FBref.

Josh Brownhill

West Ham United want Brownhill and are readying a bid after watching the £15 million-rated midfielder for nearly two years, as reported by 90min.

The 26-year-old has plied his trade in the Premier League for two-and-a-half years since making the move from Championship side Bristol City.

The all-action midfielder would be a solid addition for several Premier League clubs and it looks like Moyes could be at the front of the chasing pack.

Dwight McNeil

The 22-year-old may have endured an underwhelming season by his previous lofty standards, but there is no denying he still possesses a very gifted left-foot.

According to The Sun, the likes of Aston Villa, Everton and Crystal Palace were among the clubs credited with an interest in the midfielder during the January transfer window.

With Burnley’s relegation confirmed, the Clarets are likely to be the subject of enquiries for McNeil whose crossing ability from wide areas could be seen as an asset worth pursuing for several clubs.

Maxwel Cornet

Dyche spent £12.85m to bring the Ivory Coast international to Turf Moor from Ligue 1 giants Lyon last summer.

The 25-year-old scored nine Premier League goals from 26 matches in his first season in English football, but he has a release clause inserted in his contract.

According to the Athletic, Cornet has a £17.5m release clause which will now become active following Burnley’s relegation.

Given Cornet’s release clause, Burnley’s top scorer could be on the move this summer.

Emmanuel Dennis

Similar to Cornet at Burnley, Dennis was the key man spearheading Watford’s fight for Premier League survival.

The Nigerian couldn’t prevent the Hertfordshire side from dropping back down to the Championship, but it looks nigh on impossible that the former Club Brugge forward will be playing in the second-tier of English football, come the closure of the summer transfer window.

While none of his teammates passed five Premier League goals, the Nigerian forward has scored 10 goals this season to go along with his six assists.

The 24-year-old, who was signed for £3m last summer, has been linked with a £20m move to West Ham in the summer.

Watford’s club-record £25m signing isn’t likely to fancy another season in the Championship, the African Cup of Nations winner will be looking to secure a summer move.

Newcastle United are reportedly keen on a move for the winger who has 24 goals and 18 assists from 92 Watford matches.

Sarr could flourish playing in an established Premier League side who give him the opportunity to showcase his match-winning qualities.

Teemu Pukki

The Finland legend has scored 11 Premier League goals in both of his campaigns with Norwich City in the top-flight.

But the Canaries look no closer to cracking the code for what it takes to survive in the Premier League.

The 32-year-old, who has 55 goals from his last two Championship campaigns, will be the man tasked with firing the Carrow Road side to promotion at the first time of asking.

But in our XI of relegated Premier League players that could be snapped up this summer, Pukki could be one that goes under the radar.
